HP announced an extension of its highend "Integrity Non-Stop
server" range by introdu-cing a server based on Itanium processor
architecture.
Until now, MIPS (Micropro-cessor without Interlocked Pipeline Stages)
processors powered the company's high-end NonStop servers.
Announcing this at a media conference here, Pallab Talukdar, Director,
(enterprise marketing and alliances), HP India, said the new servers would offer
more than double the additional performance of current generation systems based
on MIPS.
"The server also offers dual and triple modular redund-ancy which makes
it idle for mission-critical applications by reducing downtime subs-tantially,"
he said.
The company is planning to target segments like banking and financial
services, brok-erage and trading houses, government and defense with new
servers. In India, HP's main NonStop customers include the Bombay Stock
Exchange Ltd, ICICI Bank, State Bank of India, Reliance Info-comm and Tata
Teleservices.
Talukdar revealed that the company was in the process of tying its first deal
for the new Itanium based NonStop server. He said that the server would be ideal
for enterprises dealing with data intensive applications such as OLAP, data
warehousing, business intelligence and data storage.
Herbert Zwenger, executive director and GM, NonStop Enterprise division, HP,
APAC and Japan said that customers were keen to replace their ma-inframes with
HP's high-end servers thanks to the flexibility and support for open-source
software applications.
