HP India Ltd today announced a strategic price cut of upto 30
percent on DeskJet models 630C, 840C and 930C. The revised street
price of the printers is expected to be Rs 3,499, Rs 6,999 and Rs
9,499 respectively.
HP's reaction follows the recent move by Epson to cut the
price of Stylus 480 and Stylus 680. While the former now streets
at Rs 3,400 as compared to Rs 4,700 earlier, the latter model is
now available at a street price of Rs 7,499.
Interestingly, although HP has only now formally announced the
price cuts, these prices have been applicable in the market since
February when it started offering these models at the lower price
through various channel programs.
"This move,” revealed Princy Bhatnagar, Market
Development Manager (Consumer Peripherals), HP India, "was
mainly aimed at capturing additional market share." And the
move paid off as the company was able to clock sales of almost
7,000 units of DJ 840C in February and an equal number in March.
This was as compared to just about 4,000 units per month it was
able to sell earlier.
