HP, Acer compete over hand-held devices

companies, HP and Acer will compete with each other in the hand-held device
category next year. Since last year, HP has been developing hand-held devices
and also had manufacture contractors including Quanta, HTC, and LG in order to
introduce smart phones, GPS PDAs, and PDAs for entertainment. These are expected
to battle with Acer's PDA products and smart phone, which will be in the
market at the beginning of next year. Acer is catching up with HP. At the
beginning of next year, Acer is going to debut two smart phones OEMed by CCI and
GPS related products are OEMed by Compal and Wistron. After the debut of rx6900
and 6800 smart phones, HP introduced PDA rx 4000 featured with bluetooth and
WLAN functions, adapted 2.8-inch screen, and integrated push mail service with
estimated selling price of NT$11,900. HP is aiming at three major product lines
in hand-held device category, including mobile phones, GPS PDAs, and PDAs for
entertainment. In mobile phone related product lines, HP also developed
blackberry and touch-paneled PDA mobile phones OEMed by HTC and Quanta.
