HCL has announced a strategic alliance with Europe-based Bull to launch its
scalable Enterprise Class Server on Open Architecture. Bull designs and develops
servers, software and services for an open environment.
As part of the relation-ship, Bull and HCL entered into an OEM agreement that
will enable HCL to provide to its customers HCL Infinity Global Line Servers
based on Bull's flagship Nova-Scale servers, powered by Intel Itanium 2
processors as well as by Bull's FAME (Flexible Architecture for Multiple
Environments) technology.
George Paul, Marketing EVP, HCL said, "The new HCL servers are expected
to provide customers with mainframe-class reliability of the traditional
proprietary RISC platforms on Open Architecture at a much lower cost of
ownership. This partnership would allow HCL to address high-end requirements of
our customers for the core of the enterprise, in areas such as large-scale
databases, ERP applications, data centers, high performance computing
requirements of scientific and research segment, etc."
Speaking on the occasion, Michel Lepert, EVP and GM of the Products And
Systems Division, Bull said, "India is a high growth market with a strong
interest in new technologies such as ones built into our NovaScale
servers."
Responding to a query on why HCL partnered with Bull, Paul said that with
this alliance HCL servers would scale till 32-way servers as compared to the
four-way HCL servers currently available in the market.
