GWALIOR: A budding IT city

Gwalior is a historical place of Madhya Pradesh. The city is named after a saint called Gwalipar (in the 8th century), when he cured the chieftain Suraj Sen from leprosy. 

The new city of Gwalior over the centuries became the cradle of dynasties. The city gained a new dimension from the warrior kings, poets, musicians and saints, who contributed to making it renowned throughout the country.

Gwalior was one place most affected by the revolt of 1857. It was one of the centers, which experienced fierce encounters between the British and the 'Rebels'. 

The Maharaja of Gwalior was loyal to the British during the mutiny and was subjected to heavy fighting after, which the British gained complete control over India. Among them those who laid down their lives here in their attempt to capture the fort were Tatiya Tope and Rani of
Jhansi. 

The Tomars and then the Lodhis first ruled Gwalior. The Mughals took over after a while and finally the Marathas laid their hands on this city.

Every era each of the rulers left their impression on the city but what remained unchanged was the imposing fort, which withstood any assault on
Gwalior. 

The Gwalior City was blessed with the Classical Music Maestro Miya Tansen. And in the memory of this great singer a music festival is held every year in the month of November and December which attracts singers from all over India.

Gwalior is well connected with all the major cities of India by road, train and by air. 

Gwalior is a city where rich cultural heritage blends with modern life. Ideally located in the center of the Hindi heartland, Gwalior provides the potentail to tap the markets in Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. 

The city has five engineering colleges and the Indian Institute of Information Technology and Management (IIITM) which provide high quality manpower. School of national renown, the famous Jiwaji Rao University backed by the five engineering colleges, a medical college and nine other arts and science colleges. 

The IIITM is a premier institute devoted to developing world class IT empowered managers and highly skilled and creative IT professionals. The institute conducts five year integrated post graduate programs in IT and Management & IT. 

Rapidly expanding communication infrastructure, so essential for development of IT, is provided largely by DoT and now also by a private operator. 

DoT has planned to spend Rs 75 Crore to upgrade the communication in the region Malanpur, a growth center in the suburbs of Gwalior offers industrial infrastructure and provides peaceful industrial relations. Land availability, low levels pollution and efficient administration also add to the potential of
Gwalior.
