The cheated Delhi channel community has got a lot to cheer about! In the
ongoing case against Sanjay Gupta of Gravis Computers, in order to secure a
conditional bail, the accused has submitted three fixed deposits amounting to Rs
17 lakh in the court. As a result of this, the Patiala House Court has granted
him conditional bail. This amount will be released to the creditors along with
interest and with any additional amounts agreed further, after the trial is
over.
This positive judgment in this ongoing case was given by the Sessions Judge
VK Mahaswari, in respect of the bail application of Sanjay Gupta who has been in
legal custody since February 15, 2006. This critical judgment is seen as a ray
of hope for those who have been cheated by Gupta.
Coming down heavily on the fraudster, the channel community strongly feels
that court has set an excellent example in front of the whole nation. As the
court has taken a very strong stand in not easily granting bail to the accused,
this case is likely to play a big role in terms of providing a lesson to not
only regional but national channel community.
“This whole case has given the channel community a lesson that they should
not indulge in such activities and if they do so, we can fight with them taking
a united front. The judiciary has also taken a very strong stand against such
fraudsters. I certainly hope that the affected channel community will get its
dues now,” informed, a prominent reseller from Nehru Place on condition of
anonymity.
“This is a very positive
judgment for us. This judgment has assured the creditors of a minimum sum of Rs
17 lakh and best aspect of this is that the case is also open against him, so he
is bound to undergo the trail proceedings regularly. This will also help the
creditors to initiate talks with him, once he is out on bail and compromise if
needed on better terms,” informed, V Krishnan, Execu-tive Secretary, PCAIT.
Earlier in the week, the police filed a nine-page charge sheet at the Patiala
House Court against Gupta. Additionally, in order to keep the case watertight, along
with the charge sheet police also submitted bills amounting to Rs 51 lakh that
Gupta still owns to the channel community. Experts close to this case believe
that if convicted Gupta is likely to get seven years imprisonment in this case.
