From a residential street to an IT hub

If Trichy is often called as the ‘heart' of Tamil Nadu, Thillai Nagar, is called as the ‘heart' of Trichy. One can say it not just the emerging IT hub of the 'rockfort city', but as the key place where the maximum IT products are supplied to the central districts like Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Karur, Karaikal, Karur, Ariyalur and Perambalur.

The street, geographically located in the busiest areas in the city, was completely a residential area is now emerging as one of the key market for IT shops and solution providers. The street welcomes with an exclusive showroom for Sony products ends with a newly-opened multi-branded retail shop. Being located at the centre of the city and easily accessible between the central bus stand and chatiram bus stand, the street is turning to be an all-under-one-roof for IT products and solutions. The vicinity is occupied by retail shops in the main road and in the inner streets, there are many system integrators and solution providers.
"It was initially a residential area and now it has turned as a commercial place and there are lot of IT products and solutions in this 2km road", says K.Manikandan, MD, Thrive Rockview, Trichy. Manikandan has his business operations nearly for two decades and witnesses a sea change in the street. "In the main road, there are nearly 40 shops and in the various crosses (inner streets), there are lot of system integrators and solution providers", he added further. P.Padmanabhan, CEO, Perfect Computer Services, who is also a long timer of the street said that initially there were only some three shops were in the street and thus customers started focusing on them which made other channel partners open a shop here. "Now it has went to the mindset of the customers that or any IT needs, Thillai Nagar would be the best place to get all the products", he further added. Padmanabhan also predicted that more IT shops may come in future.
Along with IT, many small mobile shops and other electronic gadget shops are mushrooming in the street. Even some other big IT shops are located in areas like Tennur, Karur main road, Sastri road, which just a few yards away from Thillai Nagar.
