In a significant developÂment, SemIndia recently announced
that it has signed an MoU with FlexÂtronics whereby Flextronics will become a
preferred manuÂfacÂturing partner for SemÂIndia Inc, a chip manuÂfacÂturing
consortium worÂking with Advanced Micro DeviÂces, Inc, Government of India,
Government of Andhra Pradesh and India SemiconÂductor Association. This
agreement marks a partnerÂship that will create India's first comprehensive
ecosysÂtem necessary to excel in electronics products manuÂfacÂturing in the
country. Under this strategic partnerÂship, Flextronics will manuÂfacture
electronic products for SemIndia and SemIndia will manufacture semiconÂducÂtor
chips for the various product categories that Flextronics manufactures in India.
These include chips for cell phones, set-top boxes and personal computers among
others.
The announcement was made in Delhi by Vinod K Agarwal,
Chairman of the Board, President and CEO, SemIndia Inc and Peter Tan, President
and MD, FlextroÂnics Asia, in the presence of Thiru Dayanidhi Maran, Union
Minister of CommuniÂcations and InforÂmaÂtion Technology and Dr YS
Rajasekhara Reddy, CM, Andhra Pradesh.
