Flextronics to invest in SemIndia

In a significant develop­ment, SemIndia recently announced
that it has signed an MoU with Flex­tronics whereby Flextronics will become a
preferred manu­fac­turing partner for Sem­India Inc, a chip manu­fac­turing
consortium wor­king with Advanced Micro Devi­ces, Inc, Government of India,
Government of Andhra Pradesh and India Semicon­ductor Association. This
agreement marks a partner­ship that will create India's first comprehensive
ecosys­tem necessary to excel in electronics products manu­fac­turing in the
country. Under this strategic partner­ship, Flextronics will manu­facture
electronic products for SemIndia and SemIndia will manufacture semicon­duc­tor
chips for the various product categories that Flextronics manufactures in India.
These include chips for cell phones, set-top boxes and personal computers among
others.

The announcement was made in Delhi by Vinod K Agarwal,
Chairman of the Board, President and CEO, SemIndia Inc and Peter Tan, President
and MD, Flextro­nics Asia, in the presence of Thiru Dayanidhi Maran, Union
Minister of Communi­cations and Infor­ma­tion Technology and Dr YS
Rajasekhara Reddy, CM, Andhra Pradesh.
