An invaluable and uniquely
comprehensive reference guide for all those who specify, purchase or
work with Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPSs), the new UPS handbook
from Eaton is now available as a free download from the technology
and applications page on the company's website
(www.eaton.com/powerquality).

With information-packed
pages, which are extensively illustrated with photographs and
diagrams, the handbook covers every aspect of UPS selection and
operation. It also provides a complete guide to power quality with
useful additional information such as basic introduction to
electricity, glossary of power terminology and even a table of
worldwide supply voltages.

Special attention is given
to reasons for using UPS to protect critical systems and an
explanation of the nine most common power problems, which include
power failure, power sag, under and over-voltage, electrical noise
and harmonic distortion. Also treated in detail are the major UPS
topologies and the types of application for which each is most
suitable, along with the factors that need to be considered when
deciding between centralized and decentralized systems.

Other sections of the
handbook deal with batteries, including factors that affect battery
life; software for managing and monitoring UPS installations; and
service, including details of popular type of service contract-a
vital but frequently overlooked aspect of UPS system operation.

In addition to general
information applicable to all types of UPS, the handbook also
includes sections dealing specifically with Eaton products, which are
available to handle loads from just 350VA up to 1MVA and more. Eaton
proprietary technologies and their benefits are explained, including
the environmentally friendly Energy Saver System (ESS) and Variable
Module Management Systems (VMMS), as well as Advanced Battery
Management (ABM) to optimize battery life, and the Hot Sync system
for dependable load sharing.
