Facebook has acquired Fayteq, a small German startup that builds software add-ons for video editing. The news was first reported by German publication Deutsche Startups but was later confirmed by the social networking company itself. A note on Fayteq website now reads that its products and services are no longer available for purchase.
Facebook’s latest acquisition once again points towards the company’s increasing push into videos and AR/VR. Fayteq had been selling plugins for video editors like Adobe After Effects that allowed video editors to track objects in videos, and then add or remove assets with the help of the tracking data. Fayteq’s expertise could help Facebook build further on its AR efforts.
Though Facebook has confirmed the deal but refused to share any additional information regarding its plans for the German company.
Fayteq is Facebook’s third confirmed acquisition in recent weeks. The social network recently picked up the content rights company Source3 and Ozlo, an AI chat-bot startup.
