Erode Dealers IT Association (EDITA) has come forward to launch the regional
flavor of Intrepid Ibex in the form of Ubuntu Linux on Nov 9, 2008. Its Tamil
version will be launched from Erode followed by a day hands on training session
on operating the Linux and various utilities of it.

The association is joining hands with the approved local community of Ubuntu
based in Chennai. Commenting on the launch of the open source software, CSN
Raja, EDITA said that the association was fascinated by the concept of an
operating system (OS) in Tamil. "Languages are the main constraint for most of
our customers and this Ubuntu Linux in Tamil would be definitely useful for
them," Raja said.

The local community of Ubuntu has translated the interfaces of the Ubuntu
version in Tamil and was looking to take it forward with the end-users.
Fascinated by this concept, the Erode association came forward to launch it from
their association and take it further to their customers. "Primarily the
software was on an open licensing program and it had the regional flavor too,
which our people found exciting. Only few software are on the open source front
and they don't have a regional flavor to them," Raja claimed.

He said that the primary objective for undergoing a daylong training program
was to improve the knowledge in the open source front, Raja informed. The
daylong training session would have hands on training on the installation of
Ubuntu Linux and operations.

Commenting on the launch of the Tamil version of Ubuntu from EDITA, Ramadoss,
Founder, Tamil Community, Ubuntu said that the community is looking at adding
more interfaces in the OS and this launch in Erode will help the community to
get more contributions. "We want the software to be more enhanced and are
looking forward for contributions. Such types of training programs in various
regions will bring in more number of interested contributors into the
community," he averred.

Dealers from other associations have also invited the local community of
Ubuntu for conducting a training program. "We are going to Tirupur, Coimbatore,
Ooty, Tiruchy and Kanchipuram on invitation of people who have formed a Ubuntu
community in those regions. We want this software to be developed further so
that it is comfortable for the end-users," Ramadoss said.
