Epson's market share goes up to 19 percent

According to IDC, Epson India has grown its overall printer category market share in the financial year ended March 2003 by a significant 5.24 percent. From 14.18 percent its share has gone up to 19.42 percent, thereby moving the printer major securely into the second position overall.

HP, the market leader has seen its share drop from 47.18 percent to 42.66 percent, a loss of about 4.5 percentage points.

WeP Peripherals and TVSE trail the overall leadership race in third and fourth positions with market shares of 11.47 and 10.90 percent respectively.

Epson's inkjet business drove the increase with sales for the 12-month period going up from 39,796 units to 1,12,991 units, a growth of 183.93 percent. Consequently, its market share in this category has zoomed up from 8.72 percent to 19.10 percent. HP's has seen its market share slide from 73.66 to 60.44 percent. Canon, the number three player in this category, saw its market share increase from 5.31 to
14 percent.

In the dot matrix printer category as well, Epson's market share has gone up from 25.66 a year ago to 27.73 percent. Both the other large players, TVSE and WeP, marginally lost market share.
