Enterasys Networks, has taken multi layer routing for enterprise networks to the next level by unveiling a series of new modules for its X-Pedition series of modular Layer 3-7 routers. These modules bring a variety of new technologies to Enterasys' flagship Gigabit Ethernet router, the X-Pedition ER16, to enhance the availability and performance of voice, video, data and other advanced applications across wide area networks (WAN) and local area networks (LAN).

Available now, these next-generation modules include ATM/OC-3, WAN (HSSI), WAN (serial), FDDI and higher capacity Fast Ethernet fiber modules, with each offering a comprehensive set of features for security, traffic prioritization and management. When combined with its current Gigabit Ethernet and Fast Ethernet offerings, these new modules give the ER16 the most complete range of technology and media connectivity offerings in the industry.

With the rising use in videoconferencing, webcasts, corporate Intranets, e-commerce and other network-enabled communications, enterprises will continue to require more performance, efficiency, control, security and high-availability networking for their essential applications, whether it's within a corporate or campus LAN, or around the world using a wide area network. The new Enterasys' X-Pedition modules enable enterprise networks to deliver these critical network services and features to support their applications, regardless of location or the technologies that they choose to deploy.
