face="Times New Roman, serif">Tirunelveli
is
a 3,000 year old city located on the west bank of Tamraparni. The
is city surrounded by paddy fields, and is known for its reed mats,
palm handicrafts, palm sugar and twin temples especially the
Kanthimathi Nellaiyappar Shiva temple after which the city is named.
The crawling clouds on the Western Ghats,the picturesque Pothigai
hills and the Courtallam water falls are the special features, which
make this city unique.

face="Times New Roman, serif">Tirunelveli
being a tier-2 city is running on new engines of growth IT and ITeS.
The two biggest segments in the region are education and government
that have given most of the business to the channel community.

face="Times New Roman, serif">Commenting
on the same, Anantha Varadha Rajan of BG Systems said, “Tirunelveli
IT business is doing very well and right now home, education, SOHO,
SMB and retail are the segments that are driving the industry. The
city is witnessing a sale of 1,000 laptops and 500 PCs per month and
the market is growing by 10 to 20 percent every month and 20 to 30
percent annually.''

face="Times New Roman, serif">''Brand
awareness is catching up fast in the region and all the major brands
are doing well. HP, Lenovo, Dell and HCL are the brands that are
doing good business here. Especially, HP enjoys more coverage as
compared to others because of its reputation in the market,'' pointed
out Arumugam, MD of Global Infosys. Recently, the state and central
government have agreed a bid to set up an IT park to develop the
district. The Government of India has approved Naguneri, a town which
is 28 kms away from the city as SEZ for promotion of telecom,
electronic, computer hardware manufacturers, software development and
precision engineering industries. The estimated cost of the project
is around Rs 7,000 million. More than 25 kms of land was earmarked
for this project. 90 percent of the land has already been acquired.
Once the IT park starts operating in full swing, it is expected to
provide a colossal opportunity for about 100,000 jobs directly and
200,000 indirectly in the district and adjoining districts such as
Tuticorin, Nagercoil and Virudhunagar.

face="Times New Roman, serif">What
are the major issues that partners are facing these days?

color="#000000">For
IT dealers sales tax on consumables like ink cartridges are yet to be
sorted out with the Commercial Tax department, which is a nightmare
for everyone.

face="Times New Roman, serif">How
do you think vendors can contribute in the market?

color="#000000">Almost
every general body meeting is sponsored by one of the vendors along
with their product launch or presentation. This is really helpful to
our dealer community. We are thankful to them for their support.
Similarly, every year we conduct an IT expo not only as a
fund-raising event but also to bring awareness to general public
about the latest products and technologies. Hence, if the vendors
extend their support we will be able to reach a bigger segment of
this market, which will enhance the potential for their products.

face="Times New Roman, serif">What
are the predictions for this year?

color="#000000">Major
MNCs will fight to reach the number one position. Laptop market will
beat desktop in the consumer side. At the same time, many other areas
like surveillance, networking and wireless will take new dimensions
with latest features that are needed for day-to-day life with digital
technology.
