EMC Bangalore support center opens

Storage major EMC Corporation opened its 165,000 sq feet facility and support
center in Bangalore on February 23, 2005. Karnataka CM Dharam Singh inaugurated
the center at a function, which included William J Teuber, Jr, Executive VP and
CFO, EMC and Shankar-linge Gowda. state IT secretary.

In his address, Teuber, Jr. said, "In Q4 2004, EMC received 43 percent
of its revenues from its international operations. In the next few years, we
want to increase our international revenues to 50 percent of our total revenues
and EMC India would be on the frontlines of this strategy."

He added that EMC would invest in augmenting sales force and customer support
through local partnerships in markets like India. "Between 2003 and 2007,
we plan to invest more than a $100 million to expand operations here and this
facility represents a part of this," he informed.

Attesting the investment that EMC had made in the Bangalore center, Singh
said that it illustrated the trend of big IT companies making investments in
India. "The IT sector gave $1.8 billion in salaries to 2,50,000 employees
last year in Bangalore," he said. He promised infrastructure projects such
as the new international airport, which would be ready in 2008, the Metro rail
project, elevated highways and a 1,070-acre hi-tech city project in the Sarjapur
area in Bangalore. EMC's Bangalore center, which is the first such center in
the Asia Pacific region, currently houses around 500 engineers.
