Midas Communication Technologies, the Chennai based telephony and Internet network product development company, acknowledged the contribution of Dr Ashok Jhunjhunwala in his pioneering work on developing its wireless local loop product, CorDECT. This comes in the wake of the Government of India conferring Dr Jhunjhunwala with the Padma Shri award for his contribution to science, engineering and
telecommunications.
Dr Jhunjhunwala was instrumental in establishing the TENET group at IIT, Chennai, with fellow faculty members, with a vision to make India a design house in the area of telecom and computer networks. Dr Jhunjhunwala has championed the cause that a lower telecom infrastructure cost will make telecom affordable to more Indians. His goal has been to develop technologies, which will provide 200 million telecom and Internet connections in Indian cities, small towns and rural areas.
Dr Jhunjhunwala has done pioneering work in developing the Wireless Local Loop product, CorDECT, for India in tune with India's needs and conditions. Midas has been one of the companies, which has had a close association with the TENET group and developed
CorDECT.

Dr Jhunjhunwala has already been awarded the Shanti Swaroop Bhatnagar award and the Silicon Valley awards.
