Economic Offenses Wing (EOW) of Delhi Police has registered a complaint against the defaulter Manish Chawla and his companies, SG Infosys and Sementic Information. The complaint was filed by Delhi based IT association, PCAIT, against the culprit on October 19, 2011.
V Krishnan, executive secretary, PCAIT said, "The complaint was signed by RK Malhotra, president, PCAIT and submitted on behalf of PCAIT. It was acknowledged by EOW on October 19, 2011. In the latest development, PCAIT complaint has been approved by EOW top police officer. Moreover, a separate investigative officer has been named for further investigation in this case."
On behalf of written complaints received from 7 affected partners and members of the association, PCAIT filed a complaint for defrauding its members to the tune of Rs 5.43 crore against Chawla family, who committed offenses of criminal breach of trust (Sec 406 of IPC), cheating (Sec 420 of IPC) and criminal conspiracy. However, the quantum of swindled amount in this fraud case might go up as most of the affected members and non-members are still not willing to cooperate. Even among the members, they neither want to divulge the details to PCAIT nor want to go to EOW through PCAIT."
"An appointment of IO in this case is a big break-through for our association's affected members. Moving forward, I shall fix-up an interaction between the affected members and IO. PCAIT is deeply committed to bringing fraudsters to justice and also ensure that frauds are prevented before being committed," informed Krishnan. The news of scam came into light in April 2011, since then the defaulter Manish Chawla, son of HC Chawla and director of Sementic IT, along with his family members is absconding.
