The DQ Week Delhi announced the coveted Annual Channel Partner Awards for the northern and the eastern region at the fifth annual awards function held at Delhi's Hotel Park Royal Inter-Continental. This event also marked the successful completion of six years by The DQ Week Delhi.

With the new avatar of the channel community in place, it is quintessential for every vendor to route its business through the channel partners. This community does approximately 80 percent of the IT hardware and software sales. In the eighties and for the major part of the nineties, they were known simply as dealers, but now they have become lifelines for every vendor.

The awards function was held to celebrate the success of various channel partners in partnership with Samsung India.

North India has approximately 8,000 channel partners operating either as resellers, dealers, systems integrators, Value Added Resellers (VARs) or retailers. In fact, Delhi has more than 3,000 channel partners, with close to one-third in just Nehru Place--unarguably Asia's largest IT market place.

Until a few years ago, there was little media attention to this critical, emerging community. The DQ Week Delhi, established in 1997 and focused to a large extent on the information needs of local channel partners, established the Annual Channel Awards in 1999. Adjudged by an eminent industry panel, these awards now recognize the contributions of channel partners across 27 cities of north and east India.

In his opening remarks while welcoming the gathering of more than 500 channel partners, Shyam Malhotra, Editor-in-Chief, Cyber Publications, elaborated on the positioning of channel partners in India. "Reseller community has grown from strength of being a mere box pusher to the market influencer. Channel partners now drive the marketing and sales initiatives. This graduation toward the channel partners marks the maturation of Indian IT market."
