Launching its Wi-Fi services in Delhi, Dishnet Wireless Ltd unveiled the
brand, Dishnet RED Broadband, and announced plans to promote Wi-Fi services in
Delhi. According to the company, Dishnet RED Broadband Wi-Fi would enable
Internet users across Delhi to access Internet at superior broad-band speeds at
some of the most popular public loca-tions (Dishnet Red Wi-Fi hot spots) in the
city. These hot-spot locations comprise of variety of segments like hot-els,
restaurants, cafes, air-ports, railway stations, etc.
According to VG Suri, VP, Dishnet Wireless Ltd, at present there are 29
hot-spots signed across Delhi of which 11 hotspots are opera-tional. He added
that remain-ing hotspots would be opera-tional in the next 35 days.
"The company is planning to initially make available the Wi-Fi broadband
services in eight cities and subsequently extend this to 38 cities amounting to
6,000 hotspots across the country by the end of March 2006. The company would
invest Rs 250 crore on this project," he added.
The company expects 2,00,000 Wi-Fi subscribers by the full roll out of the
project and is expecting revenue of Rs 107 crore by March 2006. Wi-Fi is
expected to contri-bute 20 percent of the comp-any's revenue, while Enter-prise
services and solutions and wireless broadband is expected to contribute 50
percent and 30 percent of the revenue respectively.
Intel is extending its sup-port to Dishnet in identifying hotspots, their
bandwidth and other essentials that a wireless network requires and provide an
environment to deploy Wi-Fi broadband services, throughout the country.
