With Cyber criminals adopting sophisticated technologies for the execution of cyber crimes, the inclination towards the next generation firewall (NGFW) is growing among the entrepreneurs. The growing incidents of Advance Persistent Threats (APT), hacking and data breaches have lead the enterprises to look for smart network security. Fortinet, one of the leading security solution providers said that the need for high tech network security solutions would lead the adoption of NGFW in a faster way.

Talking to the DQ WEEK, Navin Mehra, Regional Manager (West, Central and East) of Fortinet said that enterprises were looking for advanced and comprehensive security solutions with easy configuration and manageability and Fortinet’s sophisticated NGFW offerings addressed these requirements.

“Clients at the enterprise level have adopted Fortinet in a big way where they are looking for more sophisticated security solution, but still a comprehensive one which is easy to configure and manage and at the same time it takes care of zero day attacks or advanced attacks”, Mehra said.

India has emerged as a favourite destination among cybercriminals, who use the internet to commit crimes such as identity theft, spamming, phishing and other types of fraud. The recent Assocham-Mahindra SSG study stated that Cyber crimes in India would likely to double to 3 lakh in 2015. As per the study's findings, total number of cyber crimes registered during 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014 stood at 13,301, 22,060, 71,780 and 1,49,254 respectively.

With rapid adoption of the emerging technologies like Internet of Things (IoT), Big Data Analytics and Cloud, the robust data protection mechanism has become a need of an hour. Mehra said that the traditional approaches to secure critical business data and intellectual property were no longer enough to tackle advanced security threats.

Mehra said that FortiGate, a high performance firewalls, integrate with VPN technology, that offer enterprises an end point security.

“It is very ideal for SMB and SME customers, which offers security for their network at the same time it gives perimeter functionality and infrastructural functionality like Wi-Fi and two factor authentication”, he said, adding “The beauty of FortiGate is that it has the same operating system and feature across the platforms.”

On the buzz about Internet of Things (IoT), Mehra said that Fortinet has taken steps to address the IoT and it has got solutions for Home and SOHO segments where it could replace modems and routers of the customers with fortiGate box. He said that Fortinet has innovated products like FortiAnalyzer which could do the analyses of the data generated on a large scale.

“In a Big data front, Fortinet has got analytics products like FortiAnalyzer to give big data analytics on the threat perspective. We have also got DLP in our products and WAF, which can stop the threats”, he said.

Mehra said that the year 2015 was very crucial for the company with the government rolling out important projects like digital India, where Fortinet has a lot more to contribute as a security vendor. He said that the company would focus on new technology and product innovations and increasing its presence across the regions.
