Following the VAT assessment notices being issued to more than 10,000 dealers in Delhi, All Delhi Computer Traders Association(ADCTA) recently met Delhi VAT commissioner Prashant Goyal with regards to issuing necessary direction to the concerned officers of Audit Department for accepting the records of accounts in soft copy from dealers.
The association has submitted its plea to the commissioner in this context. The said notice is in regards to Audit of books and accounts of the dealers. The department has demanded submission of copies of records of last 4 years i.e. since FY10 and appeared before the department of trade and taxes along with the hard copies of documents.
Talking about the meeting Mahinder Aggarwal, president, ADCTA said, "on behalf of dealers of Nehru place computer market we have submitted a plea to the department. The VAT assessment notice to our association members is creating lots of confusion. During our meeting, we have put forward our concern to the VAT commissioner. In our plea, we have highlighted that VAT officers from your department are regularly sending notice to computer dealers of Nehru Place market who are registered in VAT department and introducing them self as enforcement officers and directing to the dealers to provide copies of records of last 4 years i.e. since FY 2009-2010."
According to Swarn Singh, joint secretary, ADCTA, "Most of the dealers are retailers and thus have huge numbers of papers of their account records. That in case of some dealers their documents are having app. 4-5 lakh papers. And even in case of small dealers their documents are having app. 25-30 thousand papers. Photocopies of these records cost huge amount of Rupees. Not only this , such action of officers are causing mental agony as well as Harassment to dealers without their fault.
Shyam Modi, chairman, ADCTA said, " In this regard we have requested VAT department to issue necessary directions to the concerned officers to accept required data from dealers only in soft copy."
