The
much awaited elections to the Delhi Computer Traders Association (DCTA) are
round the corner. After much delaying and deliberations, the elections--although
slated for April last--have been finalized for December 21. This was revealed by
Mahinder Kumar Aggarwal, VP, DCTA.
A
meeting of the association was held on November 14, wherein it was decided that
the elections would be held within 20 days from then, which did not find any
consequent action taken on it. Subsequently another meeting was held on November
24, which decided on the date of election. The minutes of the meeting said that
the member dealers should enroll in the association before December 21.
"The
major news is that elections are happening and that it has been decided that it
will be conducted in December 21," said Aggarwal. But Shyam Modi, the
incumbent President of DCTA, seemed to be a little confused over the elections.
He said that the elections would be held either in the month of January or
February. He attributed the delay of over five months in the conduct of
elections to his busy schedule. Modi maintained that the date of the elections
have not been fixed as yet. When the association was initially formed, it was
decided that the elections would be held every two years.
The
Nehru Place market, which has seen a spurt of new associations recently, is
indifferent to the news of elections. "I don't know of any association
being there," remarked Ramesh Jain, Director, Marks Marketing Pvt Ltd,
sarcastically. "The association as well as the office bearers have done
nothing for the past two years and as such the association does not interest
us."
Ashok
Taneja, MD, Softech Computers Delhi Ltd, and GS Kohli, Head (Marketing), OA
Compserve Pvt Ltd, preferred to stay away from the nitty-gritty's of the Nehru
Place politics, even when they said that they had also heard of the elections
being held soon. "We have received no official circular which informs us
about the elections," said Taneja.
Aggarwal,
who is currently holding the position of VP said that he will be in the fray
this time also, aiming for the post of President, while Modi was not clear as to
whether he will be seeking another term.
The DCTA, which was formed in 1996 has 800 registered resellers as its members,
while the unregistered resellers number to 1,400, said Aggarwal. The association
has five positions--President, Vice President, Secretary, Joint Secretary and
Treasurer--for which elections will be held.
