Pune-based UPS company DB Power Electronics (P) Ltd has set
up a new Rs 4.4 crore manufacturing facility to meet the growing demand for its
products. The company manufactures UPS power systems ranging from 1 KVA systems
for small offices and ATMs to bigger systems of 500 KVA.
Dilip Bhide, Founder Chairman and MD of the company said that
the 40,000 sq. feet manufacturing facility would house a modern shop floor,
electronic loading platforms, an R&D facility center for documentation and
computerized stores. "This has been pending for a long time. A project
study by our company revealed that we require 35,000 to 40,000 sq. ft from April
2003 to March 2008. The 7,000 sq. ft facility at Mundhwa is not enough to meet
the growing demand," he explained.
During the Q1 this year, the company has order bookings to
the tune of Rs 10 crore. Bhide estimated the total power electronics industries
revenue to be around Rs 2,400 crore of which 70 percent is UPS business.
However, the Rs 1,700 crore industry is again divided into the organized,
unorganized and the semi-organized sector.
Bhide foresees a huge demand for UPS systems in growing
markets such as India and China. "All the major manufacturers are coming
here. Therefore we decided to focus on the domestic market," he said. DB
Power currently ranks fourth in the country. Bhide however is upbeat about the
company’s position in the UPS market with its growth rate of 22 percent. The
company’s turnover is expected to grow from Rs 48 crore in 2002-03 to Rs 59
crore in the year 2003-04.
