Data Domain to take channel route

US-based Data Domain is looking to take the channel route in a bid to tap the
burgeoning storage market in India. The company has recently forayed into India
and is has set-up an office in Bengaluru, Mumbai and Delhi, and will be
addressing the various marker verticals.

Talking about their go-to-market strategy, Sunny John, Country Manager-India,
Data Domain expoun­ded, “We are looking to appoint partners who are technically
sound, committed and focused when it comes to selling our products. We are in no
hurry to appoint partners and will appoint a minimum of 10 partners by the end
of September.”

Data Domain has appointed Bengaluru-based Store IT as their national
distributor and will have a twin tier distribution structure in place to cater
to a varied set of customers in India. The company will be appoin­ting two
partners each in Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad. The company
has recently launched DD690, a product for Scalable Deduplication Storage for
the Core Data Center.

Talking about the challenges, John men­tioned, “A lot of customers are moving
from tape based back up to disk based back up besides data availability has
become critical and the technology around it is improving as well. The biggest
challenge the com­pany is likely to face in India is to convince the customers.
We will be exten­ding trai­ning to partners along­side holding technical
seminars for the end customers.”
