Cyberstar Infocom has tied up with Taipei-based Gigabyte
Technology to become the national distributor of its motherboards as well as the
VGA cards. As a tier one motherboard supplier to many multi-national and
regional corporations, Gigabyte has developed the world's first DDR AMD based
motherboard and was one of the first to enter the market with Intel P4
motherboards.
The official declaration of the tie up, which happened a
fortnight ago, adds motherboards to the product line of Cyberstar. "We are
looking at becoming the one stop shop, where our customers can get in the whole
of computer, rather than going to others for motherboards," explained Rajiv
Sood, Director (India Operations), Cyberstar.
Cyberstar has been the successful distributor of Quantum
hard disk drives as well as Creative range of products. It has its offices in
Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, NOIDA, Lucknow, Kanpur and Jaipur.
Cyberstar is not looking at changing the channel
strategy with the new addition of products. "We feel that we have a very
good channel partnership as well as strategy, which has been functioning well
for the Quantum and Maxtor brand of products," said Sood. The company would
be selling its products to both OEMs as well as resellers.
According to Sood, a market has to be created for the
VGA cards in India, which is not very popular in the country. Cyberstar looks at
organizing seminars and roadshows and would resort to direct mailing as well as
interactions with the resellers for increasing the awareness about the cards.
Sood informed that a couple of roadshows would be held this quarter, in which
senior technical people from Gigabyte would address the resellers.
The Gigabyte products would be available in the market
from next week, as the company has already started shipping the products to
India.
Sood added that Cyberstar has also tied up with Adaptec
last week for SCSI drives, thus increasing its product range.
