Cyberoam, a division of Elitecore
Technologies, has announced a series of wireless network security
appliances, including CR15wi, CR25wi and CR35wi, which come with an
in-built wireless access point featuring 802.11 n/b/g standards, MIMO
technology and support for up to eight virtual access points. The
appliances deliver the entire battery of UTM security features over
WLAN for protecting home offices, remote offices as well as public
Internet access outlets.

Speaking on the occasion, Abhilash
Sonwane, VP-Product Management, Cyberoam said, “Organizations are
usually comfortable securing their wired networks, however, they can
be oblivious to the threats posed by wireless networks. For instance,
when providing Internet access to guest users, a common pre-shared
key is used for authentication, a technique which lacks
identity-based controls. Cyberoam helps organizations overcome these
threats to meet security compliance requirements using its
patent-pending 'Layer 8' technology which allows security
administrators to gain complete visibility over user activity in the
network.”

For secure authentication in
organizations, these wireless UTM appliances support multiple virtual
access points that create independent, segregated networks in the
same physical area of the organization. This prevents rogue clients
from connecting to networks where they don't belong. As a key
business benefit, Cyberoam's wireless security appliances reduce
the overall cost in managing WLAN environments for SMBs up to 50
users, which involve Wi-Fi routers and firewalls. The appliances have
been designed as a single point solution to replace them.

“Through the Wi-Fi security appliance
range, we provide our customers a similar range of features and
breakthrough performances as is currently achieved with our
'accelerator' series of UTM appliances. CR35wi accomplishes
firewall throughputs up to 750 Mbps and UTM throughputs up to 90 Mbps
which is a very valuable proposition for small businesses looking for
a powerful UTM solution, coupled with the fact that they are also
getting Wi-Fi security at the same price,” added Sonwane.

Among other benefits of Cyberoam's
wireless security appliance solutions, the usage of MIMO and 802.11n
technology improves throughput and range values, thus, enabling
faster handling of video streaming and high bandwidth downloads.

Tushar Sighat, VP-Operations,
Cyberoam India and SAARC said, “Cyberoam has been traditionally
churning out the products based on the customers' requirements and
selling them through a set of large partners in India. Based on our
customers' as well as partners' feedback, we have added Wi-Fi
capabilities in our UTM appliances. It won't be used extensively
everywhere, as UTM sits on the gateway level. The Wi-Fi users can now
get authenticated directly with this wireless UTM appliance. Besides,
this is also a new business opportunity for our channel partners,
wherein they can now cater to the multi-threat scenario.”

Cyberoam will be following the same
go-to-market strategy for promoting this product in the Indian
market, as it is just an enhancement of its products features
portfolio so that it becomes part of the overall solution. This also
means that the company will be working with the same channel partners
but the focus will be more towards the small enterprises segment.
With this wireless UTM appliances, the company is targeting B- and
C-class cities in the country by conducting roadshows to create
awareness as well as cost value of these appliances.

“Out of the 500 channel partners in
the country, we will be engaging around 300 mid-sized partners to
take this wireless appliances to the SMB and SOHO customers. And in
order to make our security products popular in the Indian market, we
have a training program called CCNSP (Cyberoam Certified Network
Security Professional), wherein we train our partners on a regular
basis. There are also online sessions for the partners to make them
aware of the latest features being added on any existing products and
solutions,” concluded Sighat.
