The Eighth Cyber Media Cricket Tournament-meant exclusively for the Indian IT industry-has started in New Delhi's Kamala Nehru College ground. As in the previous seven editions of the tournament, it has been organized by Cyber Media (India) Ltd, publishers of Dataquest, PC Quest, Voice&Data, Computers@Home, The DQ Week and DQ Channels India. Meant exclusively for the Indian IT industry, it is slated to go on till January 6, 2002 when the grand finale will take place.

Being played on a league-cum-knockout basis, a total of 16 teams have been divided into four pools of four teams each. Every team gets to play a minimum of three matches in the league phase. After this, the top two teams from each pool will advance to the quarter finals, after which the tournament will be played on a knockout basis.

Teams participating include: Cadence Design Systems, Compaq Computer, Hughes Software Systems and Wipro Infotech in Pool A; BirlaSoft, Efunds International, NIIT and TechSpan India in Pool B; Hughes Escorts Communications, HP India, Microsoft Corporation and STMicroelectronics in Pool C; and Cyber Media, EHPT, Oracle Software and SDRC India in Pool D.

A glittering trophy each awaits the winner and the runner's up at the end of the tournament. Besides, there are a number of attractive prizes for the man of the match, best batsman, best bowler, and player of the tournament.

Pool B: BirlaSoft 79 all out in 15.4 overs (Sriram 33 not out, Ashish 4 for 18, Rajesh 3 for 12) lost to NIIT 80 for no loss in 5 overs (Ashish 55 not out) by 10 wickets.

Ashish Sachdeva of NIIT was declared the man of the match.

Pool A: Hughes SW 169 for 8 in 25 overs (Amit 47, Anand 46 not out, Abhishek 34, Mukul 2 for 22, Vikas 2 for 40) lost to Cadence 171 for 4 in 24.5 overs (Gurudutt 57, Mukul 36, Madhur 26 not out, Pradeep 22, Upen 3 for 22) by 6 wickets.

Mukul Mathur of Cadence was declared the man of the match.

Pool D: Cyber Media 152 for 7 in 25 overs (Ashish 45, Naveen V 21, Rajneesh 2 for 31) lost to Oracle 154 for 3 in 19.1 overs (Krishna 47, Binay 36, Pawan 22 not out) by 7 wickets.

Krishna Kumar of Oracle was declared the man of the match.

Pool C: HP 82 all out in 13.2 overs (Sanjay 34, Prakash 21, Anirudh 4 for 8, Ranjit 2 for 4) lost to HECL 86 for 5 in 14 overs (Ranjit 32) by 5 wickets.

Ranjit Narayan of HECL was declared the man of the match.
