We are estimating
that there will be a market demand in the Indian markets for about 30
lakh monitors in the year 2010-11. As of now, with the rapidly
dropping prices and growing acceptance of LCD monitors, the CRT
demand has almost vanished. So currently, the LCD market occupies a
major part of the sales volume with about 90 percent consumers opting
for them. TFT and plasma monitors occupy about 9 percent of the sales
volume and the power saving LED Technology is also gaining a lot of
attention among the consumers. This along with latest quality 3D
enabled monitors should occupy the remaining 1 percent of the market
demand. The market has stabilized a lot, coming out from the economic
recession that engulfed all the markets in 2008-09. We now expect the
sales figure to increase manifold and this is certainly be comforted
by the decreasing fluctuation in the panel prices. Also, the prices
for other components are coming down rapidly with the advancements in
technology that will ensure better demand for the monitor market.
Asus feels that
most Indian consumers make their decisions based on the fact that
they want better value for money products and would always prefer a
bigger screen size monitors at a lower price. However, most wouldn't
mind paying a little bit more for innovative and stylish products,
like VG236H 3D LCD Monitor. So essentially, it all boils down to the
fact that a product, which is more aesthetic and pleasing as well as
has more features bundled at a competitive price range will sell more
than one, which is cheaper but has less price.
LED, 3D and plasma
monitors are relatively new technologies that we have observed in
this sphere. Consumers are more drawn to LED TVs vs LCD TVs due to
their better picture quality, slimmer design and lower power
consumption, although the high price for LED's will be a hindrance
to the quick adoption of technology. There is no reason to feel that
the technology or growth in this segment has stagnated, as if this
was the case then major companies would have not introduced such
innovative technologies like 3D monitors and plasma screens. The
concept for virtual 3D imaging is already existent in LED monitors as
evident from our latest launch of the VG236H 3D monitor. However, the
technology still needs some more fine-tuning to be freely adopted by
Indian consumers. Besides, major impedance to the acceptance of
technology is the lack of 3D content quality for Indian consumers. From
the channel
point of view channel meets, seminars and technical training sessions
will be provided to partners, which will be strong channel
communication platform for monitor market. We share the product
roadmaps in these meets and ensure that they are made well aware of
the product roadmap and information about the latest technologies and
features of the ASUS monitors. Besides, we have been actively tapping
the students from the IT and Hardware networking institutes like
Jerking to impart technical education for the most innovative
features of ASUS product line. The most common
trend that we observed in the channels is that they are rapidly
shifting towards more energy efficient models and also prefer
monitors with more innovative features. The end-user preference is
however rapidly shifting to larger size LCDs. However, most end-users
are still not aware of the LED technology.
