Computerization at IMC

The state government has evinced keen interest in the computerization program being implemented in the Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) and has asked the administration to prepare a comprehensive plan that could be replicated all over the state.

Sources said that the state government was planning computerization of urban bodies and 'mandis' on a large scale and has asked Sanjay Shukla, Commissioner, IMC to submit a report about the successful computerization of IMC. In this connection, a meeting has been organized in Bhopal on February 22, which would be attended by Rakesh Shrivastava, in-charge, MP IT--nodal agency for computerization in the state. 

As far as computerization of urban bodies are concerned, the IMC has taken the lead and is planning to celebrate this year as IT year. However, the official announcement in this regard has not been made.

"The IMC tried to use IT in its functioning but only 50 per cent computerization work has been done," said Shukla. He added that the IMC was also planning to connect the IMC headquarters and its other offices through Local Area Network (LAN) and Metro Area Network (MAN).

The IMC administration has made a detailed program for its employees, which included training of staff, office automation, computerization of accounting system and development of IMC website providing information regarding various departments.

Efforts are on to ensure that all IMC related information status of building permission, licenses, water tax records, status of legal and illegal colonies, tax structure etc would be available on the website.

People could also seek answers to their queries through the Internet. So far, the IMC has been using computers for billing, making statements of expenditure and earnings, salary statements, information about employees, birth and death certificates, billing of water tax, property tax etc. Apart from this, all the proposals of the Mayor-in-Council and information regarding new building permissions have been computerized. The master list of taxpayers has also been computerized. (CNS)
