Carnival launched on June 15 in Kolkata has grossed an overall
business of Rs 7 crore in a mere span of a week. Drawing bout 5,600
footfall in the shops of KD Lane, dealers in the lane claimed to have
cleared about 80% of their stock in the desktop and laptop segment,
which lay idle for about 6 months.
“The
primary objective of the Carnival was stock clearance and sales
maximization. We tiedup with the vendors andsponsors in this move to
not only clear the stock but maximize sales aswell,” said KL
Lalani, director, Lalani Infotech. “Originally, the plan was to
have the Carnival for a shorter period, but because of the
overwhelming response we received from the consumers, we decided to
carry it on longer,” he added.
During the
Carnival period, all shops and outlets in the lane offered heavy
discounts and schemes alongwith special offers to the end-users in a
dual bid to pay homage to the city and its people, as well as,
maximize sales in a stagnant scenario. Printers were sold for prices
as low as Rs 1,500 and netbooks offered at a mere amount of Rs 10,000
on an average. Further, invigorated by the success of the carnival,
dealers in the lane are planning to host a similar show once again
this year. “We will be coming up with the same schemes and offers
this year, either during Durga Puja or in December; and next
time, we will aim a target of Rs 10 crore from this Carnival,”
Lalani said.
Besides, the
channel partners in the lane stated that they received a lot of
cooperation from the vendors in framing the carnival. “We could
offer such low prices to customers only based on cooperation in price
terms from the vendors and sponsors. If it had been only the channel
partners offering discounts, prices would not have been so lucrative
to generate customer interest, thereby pulling up revenue to Rs 7
crore,” Lalani concluded.
