Compuage wants to get into the distribution of motherboards and VGA cards. The final decision would be taken after the budget, since currently the indigenous manufacturers of motherboards enjoy a duty advantage.
Compuage also wants to distribute UPS batteries and products in the storage front. "Our immediate priority is to consolidate the current product line and get into newer product categories at the right juncture," said Atul Mehta, CMD, Compuage
Infocom.
In the meanwhile, cash cards have caught the fancy of Compuage, which it would be distributing from Intrex India Ltd, a Zee TV group company. The other distributor of cash cards is Tech Pac.
The cash cards can be used for buying Internet time and play online lotteries. "We are creating a new division for this business to ensure that our focus on IT distribution business does not get diluted," Mehta pointed out.
Compuage has plans to distribute mobile phones using the cash cards channel. However, plans are still in the initial stage and would take off once the channel is established.
After its unsuccessful foray into software development, its back to basics for Compuage. Said Mehta, "After the speedy implementation of ERP, our focus now is to tie up the product line, widen geographic reach and increase the customer base from 2,000 to 2,500."
