Comptech plans to manufacture UPS

Chennai-based Comptech Electronics, a pioneering company in the monitor manufacturing business, is seriously planning to make UPS systems here.

Recently, the company launched `Cell Power' brand of UPS in the market in association with a Taiwan company.

"Cell Power is a leading brand in Taiwan and a major exporter having OEM deals with many players across the globe. Presently, we are importing UPS from them as a finished product and have arrangements to bring it in a complete knock down (CKD) basis and assemble here," said Vikash Chandra, Managing Director, Comptech Electronics Pvt Ltd.

Comptech has sold more than 200 units of Cell Power 600 VA UPS since its launch in October. "We have launched only the entry-level model to test its acceptance in the market. As the response was very good, we will be bringing other models in due course," he said. Cell Power 600 VA UPS is priced at Rs 3,300 (end-user) in the market.

"If everything goes well, we will be starting our manufacturing process before end of this fiscal and the product would be launched under our brand name," said
Chandra.

The Cell Power UPS comes with features such as automatic voltage regulator (AVR), line search protector (LSP) and communication protocol for modem and telephone which will protect the products from power surges. "It has also a wide input voltage range between 180 volts to 260 volts," he said. The products come with a one-year warranty.

Comptech will be launching power-conditioning solutions for network environment in the next stage.
