Compass has called off its expo, expecting poor footfalls. Sources in Compass
revealed that the IT association was forced to rethink its scheduled date
primarily due to the Indian Premier League (IPL) schedule. Coupled with that, as
the nation is about to face the Lok Sabha elections, security concerns have
risen. Also, the ground that Compass was planning to hold its expo on is usually
used for elections, so a clash was expected there as well.
Confirming the news, Pawan Jajodia, President, Compass said, “We had to call
off the IT expo, 2008 due to unavoidable circumstances and had scheduled it for
this year. Now, again as concerns have risen over the IPL series and the
elections on the line, the Compass Executive Committee decided to call off the
expo altogether in the previous meeting a week back.”
Compass had invested Rs 5 lakh for the scheduled expo and is hoping to
recover a part of the money for the cancellations. Jajodia assured that Compass
will now be following the annual schedule and the IT expo for 2009 would be held
in December this year.
“It was a wise decision to call off the expo. The decision was taken before
the IPL fixtures were announced and we did not get clearance on the security
part too from the authorities on account of this. Also, we did not get
sponsorships as per our expectations. There would have been little or no benefit
for the masses as well as the partners if we would have gone ahead with the
expo,” a source said.
