Arun Jha, TISCO CIO bagged the Champion award at the first ever CIOL

Enterprise Connect Awa-rds, 2004 in the above Rs 1,000 crore category, while

Amrita Gangotra, Bharti Tele-Ventures CIO and Venkat Iyer, TVS Mo-tors CIO

bagged the Gold and Silver awards, respectively.

In the below Rs 1000 crore category Sunil Kapoor, Fortis Healthcare CIO got

the Cham-pion award and Shobhna Ravi,  TAFE CIO and Raghuram NC, CIO Orchid

Chemicals won the Gold and Silver award respecti-vely in this particular

category.

The Enterprise Connect Awards is instituted by IT portal CIOL in association

with Dataquest magazine to reco-gnize and reward cases of exemplary work carried

out by the Indian CIOs. The awards honored outstanding CIOs


in two categories-above Rs 1,000 crore companies and below Rs 1,000 crore.

Both categories had three awards each, namely Champion, Gold and silver for CIOs

who have creatively, and with great fore-sight, utilized technology to transform

their organization and, in many cases, their indu-stry enterprise. Apart from

this, six individual CIOs were feli-citated who evangelized the technology that

has become central to businesses.

In the individual award category, Sanjeev Goel, CIO, Hindalco Industries got

the 'Pioneer' award while KS Bajwa, CIO, Punjab National Bank bagged the 'Innovator'

award. VVR Babu, CIO, ITC Ltd got the 'Advocate' award. Alok Kumar, CIO,

Tata Teleservices and G Radhakrishna Pillai, CIO, SRL Ranbaxy were honored

jointly for 'Extended Mana-gement' and Arvind Tawde, CIO, Mahindra and

Mahindra bagged the 'Process' award.

The jury headed by Ashok Suta, Founder and Chairman, Mindtree Consulting went

through rigorous process of selecting and ranking the companies based on certain

parameters. Speaking on the occasion, Suta said that CIOs must deliver more

business value through IT, "Make tech-nology more user friendly and

simplify at the front end. Pro-cesses needs a push approach towards IT

investments today," he added.

Shyam Malhotra, Cyber Media Executive Director and member of jury said that

CIOs needs to add value to the businesses and there ROI should not be calculated

on IT implementations in orga-nizations. IT should be the part of organizations

and act as enabler and facilitator for the enterprises.
