Chennai's tech parks-Tidel Park and Biotech Park would soon go the wi-fi
way. "The State government has cleared the proposal and it is awaiting for
final approval and clearance from Tidel governing commi-ttee, which will be done
shor-tly," said V Srinivasan, CEO, Dishnet Wireless Ltd.
Dishnet is likely to provide the solution at an estimated cost of Rs 10 lakh
per site conne-cting all common areas/loun-ges in the premises to provide
wireless access to the network.
Dishnet, after selling its Internet service to Tata-VSNL early this year, is
now getting into wireless business with a huge investment. The com-pany is
expected to invest Rs 300 crore in the business to provide wi-fi and wi-max
solutions, along with the enterprise services. "By next quarter, we will
announce more services and provide point-to-multipoint solution for corporate,
small and medium businesses and other end-users," he said.
Talking about the wireless market in India, Srinivasan said, "The
wireless business is still in its nascent stage and waiting for many government
clearances before it could really take-off. However, the industry looks very
promising and it will grow in the lines of telecom, with mass acceptance, over
the years.
