The channel community in Jammu & Kashmir has not reported any grave
damage following the earthquake - measuring 7.6 on Richter scale - that
rocked parts of India and Pakistan, last Saturday. Remote areas of the state
suffered most of the impact.

Though strong shocks and aftershocks were experienced by many at Jammu's
Bahu Plaza — home to the city's leading IT resellers — the construction
stood the test of quake well and the channel community is doing fine.

"On Saturday, everyone here was tense, in a disturbed state-of-mind. But
we were lucky, not much damage was caused. That day there was no business, now
people are returning fast to normalcy," informed Sanjay Langer, CEO at Bahu
Plaza-based AGM Sales Corporation in Jammu.

Recalling the magnitude of the earthquake, Langer said that he was at his
place and was about to leave for office, when he felt the tremors and realized
that everything was shaking in an overwhelming manner. "I immediately knew
that it is a big earthquake. While traveling to office, I was quite worried, but
when I reached office — I found it intact and as usual. The earthquake
certainly gave us a big shock," he said.

Similar stories came in from the channel community of scenic Srinagar as
well. Even there, the remote areas reported huge number of casualties and damage
to the property. The IT channel players escaped the nature's wrath.

"We are all safe and there is no damage that has happened to the channel
community of the city. We thank God for this. We know that we are quite lucky.
It is scary to see the kind of damage that this tragedy has brought for the
whole Kashmir region. I was in Jammu at the time of earthquake and have returned
to Srinagar only today. With the kind of aftershocks that are coming, a lot of
people in Srinagar are afraid to go inside their homes. We just pray to God for
our safety," said Adil Mir, CEO of Srinagar based Computer Embassy.

As the Indian Army is one of the biggest buyers of IT equipment in Jammu
& Kashmir, many channel partners feel that the actual loss of this
devastation will only come to light only after some time has elapsed.

"There are channel partners who have supplied a lot of IT equipment to
the Indian Army and it is likely that there would be damage on this front. We
cannot comment on the extent of damage but certainly IT equipment being deployed
on the remote quake-hit areas would have taken the brunt of this
devastation," informed a source close to Srinagar's vibrant channel
