The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has partnered with telecom service provider Tata Docomo to set up Wi-Fi hotspots in the area that will enable seamless Internet connectivity. For Connaught Place, the operator, Tata Docomo, has decided to cover more than 4km, encompassing the inner and outer circles.

The first public hotspot will start at Khan Market by the month-end. The survey is been done and the spots where server boxes are to be installed, identified. After that, the project will move to CP and then Karol Bagh.

Avinash Gabriel, chief operating officer, Wi-Fi Business, Tata Docomo said, "We are proud of our long term partnership with NDMC and honored to be chosen as a trusted partner for deploying Wi-Fi connectivity at Connaught Place. Tata Docomo brings proven experience and excellence in the WiFi hotspot segment, servicing and supporting one of the world's busiest airport (T3), amongst other associations with educational institutions, hospitality, etc. With these services we are targeting business and non-business visitors who increasingly need connectivity with higher speeds across multiple devices. Our deployment at CP further reinforces our capabilities in providing seamless and high speed internet access to people who visit this place daily."

A customer will need to do is switch on the Wi-Fi mode in her device and click on the link. The user will have to fill in details such as email ID and mobile number. After that, an OTP will be received to connect to the internet. The first 20 minutes of the service would be free each day. After that, the customer will have the option of buying a plan online or walking up to a counter to purchase scratch cards, starting from Rs 20 for 40 minutes and going up to Rs 50 for 100 minutes. Bangalore was the first to offer free public internet followed by its neighbour Mangalore. And now Patna will also get the longest free Wi-Fi zone.
