Expanding its offshoring footprint in India, Cap-gemini has opened its second
operations center in Banga-lore. The company, which provides consulting,
techno-logy and outsourcing services for international clients, plans to have
600 hires by HI 2005. Currently, the Bangalore center seats around 100
employees.
At present, Capgemini has around 1,800 employees at its Mumbai center, which
would increase to 2,000 by the year-end. Explaining the reasons for expanding
into Bangalore, the company's group delivery director Gilles Taldu said,
"Our success in Mumbai has led us to open a second facility in India. We
chose Bangalore since we can address our customer demand better, to attract the
best talent available in South India and also to mutualize risks."
Declining to reveal the investment into the center, he added that the company
has selected India as its core offshore location because if its highly talented,
cost-effective and English-speaking software engineers.
The Bangalore center will focus on new client accounts centered around
applications management services. Baru Rao, CEO , Capgemini India said that the
entry into Ban-galore affirmed the company's commitment to India and would
play an important role in the group's Rightshore model, which is a mix of
onshore, offshore and near-shore services.
So far, the Indian operation has handled over 350 deliveries across several
verticals. Rao said that around 30 percent of the company's turnover came from
outsourced services. He expects this to go up in H2 this year when two major
international deals would materialize.
The company has near shore facilities in France, Spain, Poland and Canada
while its offshore presence is in China and India. Rao said that the Indian
centers would focus on IT services like application management and support,
development and maintenance, infra-structure management and technology services.
