Canon India Pvt Ltd kicked off a major marketing and brand building campaign–‘Celebration

Yatra’ in Ahmedabad, as it sees Gujarat as one of the potential high premium

markets in the country. Keeping this in view, Canon has embarked upon expanding

its marketing operations and make its retail service network, stronger in

Gujarat, during 2004.

Canon is riding high on the growth of its digital imaging market in the state

during the past year where it captured a 40 percent market share in Gujarat in

the ink jet printers category. The company is now eyeing a major market share in

the Rs 3,000 crore per annum photo industry, where Gujarat is a major market.

Witnessing a growth in the laser printer category, Canon is now working out

strategies to enter into this segment in a big way. In order to achieve all this

growth, the company will soon enhance retail presence in Gujarat to 60 from its

current 10 points, informed Alok Bharadwaj, Director and GM–Consumer Imaging

& Information Division (CIID) and Volume products, Canon India.

From its current operations in Gujarat, the highest contributor of its

coffers, Canon is likely to expand its operations in 11 new towns including
