Technologies has recently come out with a range of new recovery and
data management products under the ArcServe series. The ArcServe r.15
consists of three major products including ArcServe Backup, ArcServe
Replication, ArcServe High Availability and ArcServe D2D. “The
latest release from the ArcServe series addresses issues of backup,
high availability and disaster recovery and all these solutions form
a comprehensive data recovery management portfolio,” said Vijayant
Rai, Director-Channels India, CA Technologies. The backup product
can be used for tapes, off-site locations and even to backup UNIX and
Windows-based servers. The replication and high availability product
can be used to replicate data and ensure high availability for
critical primary servers. It can even be used on servers for
Blackberry phones, SQL and Oracle-based servers. While this product
was earlier branded the CA Exosoft, it has now been included under
the ArcServe brand because it has a huge recall in the market. The
D2D product is a bare metal restoration product, which can be used to
restore onsite locations even with dissimilar servers. “Today
customers look beyond the backup scenario, they want 24x7 recovery
for all their applications,” said Rai. “It is estimated as per
research that about 70 percent of corporate data lies outside of the
corporate datacenter. The challenge is on how to manage and protect
this data,” he continued.

sees
a lot of traction in the availability scenario. “Backup is a
mature market and customers understand the need for it. Demand for
availability is ramping up and this is especially true of the BFSI
vertical. We are seeing potential across the mid-market for the
availability of products, while for SMB customers it is mainly
restricted to backup at this point in time.

The products we have launched can be run by our customers themselves
and do not need high-end IT staff to maintain it. Across the
enterprise segment, we are seeing good potential in telecom,
government and BFSI for these products,” shared Rai.

about the licensing for these products being one of the key
differentiators, Rai said, “As far as licensing for these products
is concerned, we have three models of licensing depending on customer
requirements. As a customer you do not need constant recurring costs
that accrue due to buying of new licenses to backup the new server
you just bought. Therefore, for customers who have more than 50
servers, we have a managed capacity licensing option wherein the
license is issued based on the capacity that the customer specifies
and not on the number of servers he has. For smaller customers, they
can choose a single server bundled with all the licenses option or

style as they want.” He continued, “Our pricing is very
competitive and compared to our competitors, we offer several options
bundled with our base product for which they charge separately from
the customer. For instance with our ArcServe Backup product, our
customer also gets the deduplication capability, virtualization
support for Hyper V and Microsoft bundled along with it for free
while our competitors charge extra for these options.”

works with two national distributors Redington and Ingram Micro and
through them it reaches out to around 150 partners for its new range
of products. “We launched the ArcServe r.15 in the beginning of May
and since then we have had roadshows to showcase this new range to
our partners in Mumbai, Chennai and Delhi. Along with these events,
there were boot camps held to train our partners hands-on these
products. More than hundred partners were trained during the
technical hands-on sessions. Starting from the second quarter (JAS)
onward, we will restart our Friday Partner Clinic where partners can
step into our offices across major locations at a particular time
slot on Fridays where our pre-sales team will train them on certain
product aspects both from a sales and technical perspective,”
signed off Rai.
