The much-awaited broadband services, which have been introduced by Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) in Kolkota, are likely to be delayed in Pune and Bangalore. Although the services were to be introduced sometime in July, this is likely to get further delayed.

+BSNL plans to introduce broadband services in its network soon. The field trial of the system is underway in Kolkata for the first time in India. Pune and Bangalore are the other two cities chosen for the first phase of the launch.

Attributing the delay in the launch of broadband services in Pune due to a holdup in the arrival of equipment, RL Dube, Principal GM, BSNL Pune, said that the broadband services would mean that a customer would be able to use his existing landline in order to gain access to unlimited Internet access, video on demand, audio on demand and cable TV channels.
