Bhubaneswar, also

known as the temple city of India, is one of the largest and most

prominent IT hubs of Orrisa. The city has seen huge growth in the

metal processing industry, and has become one of the fastest

developing cities of India. The government has also fostered its

growth by developing IT parks in Bhubaneswar, such as Infocity 1 and

Infocity 2. Backed by the dominant IT industry, and the presence of

myriad industries, the city has a well-flourished and growing IT

business.

Owing to the

presence of more than 60 engineering colleges, Bhubaneswar has a

large population of students, which contributes 60% of the

marketshare. The education segment is considered to be the backbone

of Bhubaneswar IT market, besides the corporate, government, SMB and

manufacturing verticals. The market has been growing at 20-30% YoY

and will continue to register more growth in the coming years. The

city witnesses business from both hardware and software players.

Quick Heal anti-virus software and Tally business solutions are some

of the big names in the software product brands. Dell, HP and Sony

are the most preferred brands among laptop buyers. “New

technologies always draw the attention of buyers. These days, tablets

are selling like hotcakes, and Samsung Galaxy is one of the top

choices of consumers,” said Dhirendra Kumar Khandelwal of E Square

Systems & Technology. Consumers also prefer to purchase netbooks,

besides tablets. “Samsung laptops and Beetel peripherals are also

driving the sale these days,” said Subash Das of Info World.

The

Bhubaneswar IT

market has around 200 resellers and dealers. It witnesses a sale of

6,000 laptops per month. According to Anil Kumar Choudhary of style="background: rgb(255, 255, 255) none repeat scroll 0% 0%; -moz-background-clip: border; -moz-background-origin: padding; -moz-background-inline-policy: continuous;">Maple

Computer

& Communications, “Most of the business

happened during June to October, because c face="Times New Roman, serif">ollege

admissions take place during these months, then festival season

around the month of October also drives large number of customers.” The

presence of major national distributors like Redington, Ingram Micro,

Rashi Peripherals is an another advantage of the city. Bhubaneswar

has a computer association, IT Association of Orissa (ITAO), which

helps dealers and resellers in solving their matters with vendors. As

far as vendor-dealer matters are concerned, some dealers complain

that vendors often hire new channel partners and distributors, which

affects their business. They expect their vendors to provide right

products and support. “They should come up with new promotional

schemes and try to incorporate new and catching advertising methods,

which can help us to escalate our business growth,” opined

Choudhary. The dealers are fairly positive about the market growth

and expect it to rise in the coming months.
