Popularly known as

the 'City of Lakes', Bhopal, the capital of Madhya Pradesh, has

marked an important sign of its presence in India for its fascinating

amalgam of scenic beauty. Bhopal has an aristocratic imprint of its

former rulers, besides its equally impressive modern edifices. Since

its inception in 1708 by an Afghan soldier, Dost Mohammed, the city

has been witnessing vibrant colors of changes. One can also easily

identify the blend of different cultures of Buddhists, Hindus,

Mughals and Afghans here. Besides being

recognized as a multi-faceted city, Bhopal has also been considered

as one of the most important industrial regions of the country. Most

of the business comes from the production of cotton textile, jute and

electrical products, as well as power generation. In fact, it is also

an important economic, educational and political center of the state.

The IT industry in

the city has also being faring well. Although, it has not seen any

major developments or changes from the last one year, it is still

hovering around an annual revenue of approximately Rs 10 crore. “As

far as the IT industry is concerned, the city has been growing at

around 15 percent per annum,” pointed out Amitendra Srivastava,

CEO, Coral Business System. He further added, “There are around 250

dealers, resellers and retailers, who specifically serve SMBs, SOHO

and education verticals.” Anurag Jesani, CEO of Taurus

Microsystems, said, "Majority of the customers are from the

government sector followed by corporates and the retail segment."

Most people like

to spend on buying laptops, desktops, processors, networking and

other accessories from major brands like Intel, Sony, HCL, D-Link and

HP. There is also a huge demand of servers from IBM. While asking

about the presence of any IT association in the city, Jesani said,

“We have an active association, Bhoj Information Technology and

Office Automation Association (BITOAA), which is very helpful in

solving our problems, and maintaining harmony in the market. It also

organizes various events like, IT Mela and Cricket Matches for the

dealer community here.” Dealers in the city seem to be happy with

the association, which came into being in 1997. The association has

around 100 active members and works as a three-structured

organization. It has been consistently working to address various

problems faced by its members.

When it comes to

dealing with vendors, every retailer or dealer has some kind of

issues with them. The most common problem that creates hurdles for

dealers is that vendors have very aggressive marketing techniques and

a lethargic approach towards service problems. The only solution

which the dealer community looks forward to is timely delivery of

products and prompt services. However, the dealers need to practice

perseverance, to see how and when their expectations are met.
