In a recent meeting between Partha Chatterjee , IT Minister, West Bengal and a few IT companies with presence in the state ,a plan to set up a single window for clearance of IT projects was put in place. The companies who attended the meeting include names of Cognizant, ITC Infotech, Tata Consultancy Services and Rolta along with IT industry body NASSCOM. Laying of an IT task force or a sub-committee was also under the same plan whose responsibility will be to study the feasibility of the above proposal.
Some of the other issues which were discussed n the meeting were:
- The state will target to garner 15% of nation's IT revenue by the year 2020.
- In congruence with other states, West Bengal should also have a ‘technology bhavan' on any one of the assigned government properties. The preferred location would be Rajarhat or Salt Lake Sector V which already houses the top IT companies.
- Bengal should take proper steps to market itself as a major IT hub.
- The state should drive entrepreneurship and should place the infrastructure in place to boost growth
The meeting also discussed the issues that the stakeholders and the company representatives were facing in the execution of their business processes in the state.
After the end of the meeting, it is expected that Bengal will soon see a new day with respect to its IT infrastructure and will witness the growth of local entrepreneurs and incubation centers.
