Chennai-based Beacon Software Systems has trained its eyes on the emerging markets in Africa for its products - Human Resources Management System (HRMS) and Maintenance Management System (MMS). It has tied up with a Kenyan company, Software Applications, to market these products in Nairobi, Tanzania and Uganda. According to the licensing and distribution arrangement, Beacon would be paid an up front licensee fee and a recurring royalty payment for the installations.

"We are looking at the emerging markets in Africa such as Nigeria, Gana, Kenya and Zambia. We are also talking with a Singaporean company to market the products in Singapore and Malaysia. We would leave the US and Europe for the big brothers and focus on Asia Pacific and Africa. Once we establish a base there, we would be looking at Latin America also," said SP Annamalai, Director, Beacon Software
Systems.

Beaconsoft has already submitted its Maintenance Management System for evaluation and certification by the international management consultancy, Deloitte & Touche. Next in line is its Human Resource Management System. Once these products are certified, Deloitte & Touche is expected to market the product in the four African countries.

Beacon expects to launch these products formally in India by the end of October. The price of the products ranges from Rs 5 lakh to Rs 12 lakh depending upon the customization needs of the customers. HRMS and MMS are expected to contribute Rs 1.5 crore to the projected revenue of Rs 5 crore for Beacon Software this fiscal. It expects the rest of the revenue to accrue from providing customized IT solutions and installations at its promoter company Texmaco based in Indonesia. Beacon Software had clocked Rs 1.25 crore last fiscal.
