AUO plans to build new LCM plant in Xiamen

AU Optronics Corp (AUO) announced that the company has planed to set up a new
LCD module manufacturing site in Xiamen, Fujian Province, which will be the
company's second plant in mainland China. The initial investment will be US$ 50
million, including the new plant and a sales facility. AUO expected the new
plant would be a base to develop Southern China market. The new subsidiary would
be named AU Optronics (Xiamen) Corp. AUO pointed out that the investment and
development of the company in Central Taiwan Science Park (CTSP) in the few past
years have not reached the growing demand in the future; the company has to set
up new plan to avoid the shortage. Moreover, the main concern of the new plant
is to be near the customer.
