It's reboot time for processors with Intel and AMD launching their
dual-core proce-ssors and accessory vendors are all upping their technology
plat-forms to support the latest entrants. ATI Technologies, the mar-ket leader
for graphic chips, is preparing to launch chipsets that will support these newly
launched dual-core processors.
According to Adrian Hartog, Senior VP, Con-sumer Business Unit and CTO, ATI
Technologies, "We have various chip-sets supporting Intel and AMD
processors presently. And with the launch of dual-core processors we are
pre-paring to introduce new chipsets that will sup-port these processors. We
plan to introduce these chipsets probably within the next six months to one
year."
Presently, ATI provi-des integrated chipsets for the complete range of Intel
and AMD desk-tops and notebooks enabling digital home entertainment. And with
the launch of dual-core processors, the company intends to enhance the chipset
performance and capabilities.
On being asked whe-ther, this new launch of chipsets will further boost its
market share Hartog said, "These dual-core processors are important for
high-end gaming enthusiasts and for applications where visuals are used in a
large way. However, we see this as yet another opportunity for ATI to penetrate
further."
