Asus brings 64 bit AMD mobos

Asustek Computer Inc. (Asus) has introduced the K8 family of motherboards for
Athlon/Opteron/Sempron 64 754-pin processor platform. The K8 family also
features dual-RAID techno-logy, Serial ATA ports, eight-channel audio and
optical S/PDIF output.

The motherboards from Asus support VIA, Nvidia or SiS chipsets. These include
K8V SE Deluxe, K8V-X for VIA chipset, K8N4-E Deluxe, K8N-E Deluxe and K8N for
Nvidia chipset and K8S-MX for SiS Chipset.

The motherboards inc-lude an exclusive Wi-Fi slot, based on the 802.11b
stan-dard, which is specifically designed for the ASUS WiFi-b WLAN card to set
up an environment for home wireless LAN. The ASUS WiFi-b WLAN card bundles the
exclusive Software AP (access point) to save the extra cost of an actual AP. In
addition, the card comes with user-friendly utilities and applications that
allow quick connection to note-books, PDAs and other WLAN peripherals. The
exclusive slot also supports the 802.11g standard for future upgrades.

Asus-exclusive add-ons include the My logo, which allows users to convert
photos into a 256-color boot logo, Power On Self Test reporter with voice
warning to simplify system assembling, Crash free BIOS 2 which includes the BIOS
auto recovery function in support CD. It also comes with a firewall and Instant
Music Lite, designed to allow users to enjoy music without logging into Windows.
Other features are AI overclocking, C.P.U parameter recall and AI NET2.

All Asus K8 mother-boards except K8N4-E deluxe are available in India. The
prices are as follows K8V-X is priced at Rs 5,700, K8S-MX is priced at Rs 4,990,
K8N is priced at Rs 5,900 and K8N-E Deluxe is priced at Rs 8,700.
