Over
the
past few years, the ever-fluctuating market of counterfeit pen drives
seems to be back in a favorable, steadily growing position. However,
there is a very grey lining to this market's current situation as
said that the counterfeit pen drives, predominantly from China, is
still a major factor in the channel and is also on the rise,
particularly in India, now more than ever. Adding to
the worse is the Mumbai city, where the commodity nature of fake pen
drive, flash can appear in any part of the city very easily and it
appears that they are becoming more and more readily available. Fake
pen drives pose a massive threat not only to the manufacturers
themselves but cause problems throughout the whole channel from
vendor to distributor to reseller and finally the consumer. The most
significant threat of these counterfeit pen drives lies with the
consumers themselves. “Definitely
the intelligent customers would think twice before buying any fake
pen drives as they also must be aware about the same. Today, one can
find a pen drive of 80 GB and 50 GB which is even unheard of in the
current scenario. And to top it, the prices for the same is as low as
the rates of the 2 GB pen drives. In fact, I have seen the local
urchins selling in the trains and on platforms in Mumbai. But I
personally believe that the company can help to some extent by
creating awareness in the market style="background: transparent none repeat scroll 0% 0%; -moz-background-clip: border; -moz-background-origin: padding; -moz-background-inline-policy: continuous;">and
taking
stringent actions against these criminals” said Girish
Rathod, href="https://www.dqweek.com/tait-introduces-member-advantage-program">TAIT
President. Taking
a strong support for the fake pen drives Ketan Patel from Creative
Peripherals and Distribution said that it is a complete loss of the
consumers as well as the manufactures on the trust part. It is very
important for the manufacturers to maintain the trust factor between
the consumers.

style="background: transparent none repeat scroll 0% 0%; -moz-background-clip: border; -moz-background-origin: padding; -moz-background-inline-policy: continuous;">“Though
companies
like Kingston and Transcend should take concrete steps to
avoid the selling of fake pen drives in the market, on the other part
software companies like Microsoft, Adobe and Oracle are doing much
better to work on the situation. Also the customers need to
understand that the 4 GB pen drive marked and sold to them is
actually a 1 GB pen drive and they can lose their important data stored
in it” added Patel. Voicing
his opinion on the same Ashwin Kukreja form Real Time Computer said,
“This has been going on for a long time now and I think so that the
manufacturers should start acting very strictly on the same. They can
put some serial number for a particular number of pen drives they are
manufacturing and make it available on their site. In this way I
guess even the channel would be aware about the current situation of
the real pen drives. Or they could also send mailers to their
partners and customers and make them alert. I guess the channels must
be suffering a loss of 10-20 percent in regards to these fake pen
drives.”
