Chhagan Bhujbal, Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, inaugurated the anti-cyber crime cell launched by the Pune police on July 2. Although only a few cases have been reported in the city, the cell is being launched as a precautionary measure. A N Roy, Pune Commissioner said that initially two sub-inspectors and six constables would man the cell. It’s functioning would be monitored by an officer of the rank of an inspector. The policemen have been given basic training on computers.

Although the police would work in association with Nucleus Composition, a software firm, Roy said that special training would be provided to enable the policemen to deal with cyber crimes. The cell would deal with hacking, cracking, cyber stalking, misuse of net accounts and financial crimes committed using the web. Efforts would also begin to patrol the cyber highway.
